Eleven planks that changed the world?

In 1903, Thomas Lee invented a comfortable chair for his vacation home, crafting the first prototype using eleven planks. The design was later refined and patented by a local carpenter named Harry Bunnell.

The Adirondack chair (known as the Muskoka chair in Canada) is a classic piece of outdoor furniture that originated in the early 20th century in New York’s Adirondack Mountains. It is characterized by its wide, sloping backrest, deep seat, and broad armrests, which are often used as shelves for drinks or books. Originally constructed of wood – with cedar, teak, and mahogany being particularly popular for their weather-resistant qualities – modern versions are often made with plastic or metal.
